Location: Kiev, Ukraine

We went to visit the WWII Museum today. It was an incredible, yet sobering, eye-opening experience. Up until today, I did not know how big of a role Ukraine played in World War II. I knew it was behind the Iron Curtain, but that was the extent on my knowledge. A sense of awe accompanied me as I walked beneath the huge monumental figure towering over top of the museum. Each new room brought with it tales and memories of a time not so long gone. The grief, the suffering, the despair. I can only imagine it, but others lived it. I have drawn a deep respect for those people, and as I walked through the concrete, lined with giant brass figures, I know that I will never forget this place....
